One of Scotland’s young designers to watch in 2016 is knitted textile designer Catherine MacGruer who last year won the New Design Britain Award for her Tiles collection of merino wool luxury blankets.
The collection in bold patterns and bright colours are inspired by the eclectic styles within the mosaics of Barcelona. These luxurious soft double sided blankets add individuality to the home as well as being perfect for keeping warm on cold evenings. In her designs she uses merino wool, one of the softest wools available.
Catherine graduated from Glasgow School of Art in 2014 and has been consistently achieving recognition for her work winning the Gillian Purvis Award and Bill Naysmith Award for innovation and on graduation was a finalist for the made.com UK Emerging Talent Award. Last year she was accepted for the Craft Council’s Hothouse programme for emerging designers and she was one of only seven Scottish graduates selected for a Designer Showcase at Visual Arts Scotland Annual Exhibition.
